Son Heung-Min has urged the club to not let their foot off the accelerator as they attempt to finish in the top four following their win over Manchester City on Sunday, per Goal.
What’s he said?
The South Korea international scored the second goal as Jose Mourinho’s men won 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with debutant Steven Bergwijn also on the scoresheet.
The result moves Spurs into fifth, four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
There are 13 games of the season remaining and Mourinho’s men have to play the Blues at Stamford Bridge before the end of the season, as well as Wolves, Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester City.
And Son insists that he and his team-mates simply cannot let up.
He said: “We have over 10 games now. We have a lot of games to play but at the end of the season, we will see what happens.
“We just try to be focused. We just try to get as many points as possible.
“Manchester City are so good and played so well in the first half. We had to defend all together but in the second half we came out strong.
“To win before the winter break was very good for our confidence. The fans were so happy and the players as well after the game so it was an important one to win.”
Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?
Can’t drop points
Spurs can’t afford to lose to their rivals.
There is an old saying in football that if you wish to stay in the Premier League, you have to beat the teams around you.
The same goes at the top, though, and with Spurs playing four teams who can still qualify for the Champions League, they need to take points from all of those games.
The clash with Chelsea comes after a trip to Villa Park to play relegation-threatened Aston Villa and that is one of the first markers as Mourinho’s men look to finish in the top four.
They can ill-afford to lose.
Meanwhile, a global superstar snubbed Spurs in January!
