Newcastle United fans have been boosted by the news that Florian Lejeune has returned to light gym work as the central defender continues his recovery from a knee operation.
Lejeune picked up a cruciate knee ligament injury during pre-season training, and underwent surgery to repair the damage.
It was thought that the defender would miss the entire 2018-19 campaign with the issue. However, Lejeune was back running little over one month after undergoing the operation.
Newcastle have now provided another positive update on the 27-year-old’s recovery, with images showing the Frenchman in the gym.

A tweet from Newcastle’s official account read:
“Although he’s still a little way off returning to full training, Florian Lejeune was in the gym with his team-mates this morning as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.”
Lejeune was impressive for the Magpies last season following his arrival from Eibar, and his injury was a huge blow for Newcastle ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Indeed, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar were brought in during the summer off the back of the injury news.
A poor start to the 2018-19 campaign has left Newcastle in 19th position in the Premier League table, having collected just two points from their eight matches to date.
The Magpies will attempt to pick up a much-needed three points when they host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.
