Liverpool travel to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday ahead of a tough test against an Arsenal side who are currently enjoying a 13-game unbeaten streak. However, if the Reds are at their best, and Jurgen Klopp gets the key tactical decisions right, then they have every chance of returning to Anfield with the three points.
On the chalkboard
If the Gunners are allowed to dominate and control the midfield area then they will exert continuous pressure onto the Liverpool defence.
However, if Liverpool can win the midfield battle, then they’ll be afforded the opportunity to get on top of the Gunners’ shaky rearguard.
Against Crystal Palace, last time out, Arsenal’s midfield was overrun as the Eagles ensured that the middle of the park descended into a frantic and feisty affair, and as such the Gunners were unable to stamp their authority on the match.
Raising the pace
Klopp must send his team out to match the Eagles’ efforts against Arsenal. The energy provided by the likes of James Milner, Xherdan Shaqiri and Georginio Wijnaldum ought to allow the Reds to raise the pace of the midfield game. If Arsenal can’t settle on the ball then they’re likely to lose cohesion, which could then open up spaces for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to exploit.
What’s more, constantly pressing and harrying Arsenal’s men in the middle cuts off the supply lines to their attackers. This would cause their potent forwards to either become isolated and cut off from the game or else have to drop deep into less effective areas.
