The Premier League striker, who has been with the Hammers since 2015, had to be cut from the wreckage of his £260,000 Ferrari FF after colliding with a tree in Theydon Bois, Essex. With the damage to his car taken into account, the 34-year-old can be considered lucky to still be alive.

Unsurprisingly, Antonio was left dazed and confused by the scary incident, with Samuel Woods – a local who had been walking his dog in Epping Forest – telling of the scene that he found when pulling over to check on what he initially thought was an abandoned vehicle: “I said to him ‘hello’ to see if anyone was alive. I heard sirens and told him that help was on its way. He was so disorientated. He said, ‘Where am I? What’s going on? What car am I in?’ The paramedics got there really fast. I couldn’t believe what happened. The car smelt of petrol.”
Woods went on to say: “I looked at him and thought, ‘He’s in big trouble’. I just said, ‘You’ve had an accident’. He didn’t reply. He was looking around trying to make sense of what I just said. He was sitting in the passenger side.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
It took almost an hour for firefighters to cut Antonio from his mangled car, with the Hammers forward then airlifted to hospital. He has since undergone surgery on a badly broken leg and is expected to be out of action for at least a year.
