Tottenham are keen on signing Hector Herrera from Porto in the January transfer window, according to A Bola, via SportWitness.
What’s the word?
Following a disappointing summer transfer window where Tottenham failed to bring in a single fresh face, Mauricio Pochettino is under pressure to add to his squad when the window reopens at the start of January.
The Lilywhites have already been linked with a host of targets for the mid-season window and the latest reports from Portuguese outlet A Bola, via SportWitness, state that Porto midfielder Hector Herrera is on Pochettino’s January wishlist.
28-year-old Herrera sees his current contract with Porto expire at the end of the season, which could force the Portuguese side into a sale, but Tottenham face competition in the market as Roma are also eyeing a move – while a new contract could also be agreed.
The right target?
Tottenham certainly need more depth in their midfield ranks, particularly as Belgium international Mousa Dembele is widely expected to be on his way out in the near future – but it is highly debatable whether Herrera is the right target.

At 28, Herrera would arrive in North London with the expectation of playing regular football for the Lilywhites but Pochettino would not be able to guarantee those opportunities – and there are better options for Spurs to consider.
The Premier League title hopefuls have been recently attributed with an interest in Paris Saint-Germain ace Adrien Rabiot and the 23-year-old France international would provide a long-term boost for Pochettino’s side, which Herrera cannot.
